Mission : Ensuring that poor have access to quality Microfinance and EDS services at the lowest possible cost ,ensuring a prosperous future for this sector of the society

Strategic Objective : Reduce Poverty amongst our beneficiaries ensuring that minimum of 20% minority and 70% women will be participants.

The Berendina Microfinance Institute (GTE) Ltd, known by its acronym "BMI" commenced its operations in May 2007 as a successor to the microfinance program that was under Berendina Foundation. BMI follows a credit plus approach providing both credit and business development services in both the rural and estate sectors. While Berendina Foundation conducted its microfinance activities within a charitable approach, BMI follows best practice in Micro Finance services as advocated by CGAP and the industry.

 

 

Berendina Development Services (Gte) Ltd -BDS

Berendina Development Services (BDS) was established in May 2007 with a view to continue with rural development and poverty alleviation efforts of its predecessor Berendina Foundation. BDS covers both the rural and estate sectors in its services.

Create an empowered equitable Society where poverty does not exist.

Mission
Provide livelihood, health and sanitation services to marginalized rural and plantation communities and assist their youth to find productive employments.

 
Berendina Stichting

The Berendina Stichting (Foundation) was founded in 1987,as stipulated in the last will of Mrs. Berendina Borst who died in the same year. Mrs. Borst visited Sri Lanka for the first time in 1982. Together with Mrs. Eva Mudalige she initiated a programme with a view to improving the living conditions of the poor people in Garadoda (Yatiyantota). As from 1992 a more professional way of working was introduced, with the cooperation of Dulan de Silva, Anura Atapattu and Jagath Godakanda as consultants. A social development as well as a health programme, and as from 1996, a housing programme were set up. Mr. Bas Timmermans was the inspiring chairman of the foundation from 1987 until 2003, when Mr. Hein Princen succeeded him.
